요약정보
Blades gliding smoothly on the rink‚ sticks merely touching the ice surface to chase after the round rubber puck.
These polished 13- and 14-year-old minor leaguers with at least five to six years of experience under their belt‚ are the future faces of Canadian ice hockey.
A country of vast land spanning the northernmost part of the Western hemisphere‚ Canada has long been the home of the greatest in the world of ice hockey.
Freezing temperatures during the long winter season bore the sport in 1879 in Montreal‚ the city where the National Hockey League was also established in 1917.
So it is only natural for many youngsters in Canada to step directly from stroller to ice.
[Interview : Junior hockey player] "All of us would like to play in the NHL. It would be a lot of fun. It's the best of the best and you have a chance at winning the Stanley Cup. It would be pretty awesome."
Ice hockey is especially in the limelight this month amid high expectations for a gold medal in the sport at the 2010 Winter Olympics.
[Interview : Junior hockey team coach] "Speed‚ it's physical. You have to be smart and you have to have individual skill‚ all in that in a team game. So if you don't play the team game‚ you'll lose. It's just everything that Canada represents."
As Team Canada gears up to bring home the country's eighth Olympic gold medal‚ it seems the sport of ice hockey will likely be dominated by Canadian players for future generations to come.
