Six industries and 22 new growth engine projects have been selected to help develop Korea's economy.
The government and the private sector plan to invest more than 99 trillion won or around 90 billion US dollars in these areas to build up Korea's future growth engine industries.
The plan which was announced at a meeting chaired by President Lee Myung-bak Monday is expected to create approximately 880-thousand new jobs by 2013 and lead President Lee's vision of "green growth."
Some of the selected industries include energy-environment‚ transportation and advanced information technology.
From these industries 22 projects will be carried out which include nurturing Korea's robotics and semiconductor industries.
The Ministry of Knowledge Economy says these sectors were selected because they have a relatively high chance of success and they can help solve some of Korea's economic and social problems such as the stagnant employment levels.
The government will provide about 8 trillion won which will be invested in high risk research and development programs while more than 91 trillion won will come from the business community.
The government is expected to ease regulations and improve related institutions to back up these projects.
