Hit by surging oil prices growth in energy consumption around the world in 2005 slowed to almost half the level seen in the previous year.
British oil giant BP says global energy consumption rose 2.7 percent last year while petroleum usage grew around one percent.
For the FIRST time in 20 years the rate of increase in overall energy consumption FELL in the United States rising a mere 0.1 percent.
But China‚ India and Korea were among the exceptions.
In Korea for example overall energy consumption ROSE almost 4 percent well above the global average.
An official at Korea's Commerce‚ Industry and Energy Ministry said the rise was due mainly to the high proportion of energy-dependent‚ manufacturing industries in those countries.
Korea accounted for over 2 percent of global energy spending becoming the world's ninth-largest energy consumer.
In petroleum consumption Korea ranked seventh.
