It turns out obesity could be in people's genes after all.
A British-led research team says its decoded how a gene long associated with obesity makes people fat.
A study‚ published in The Journal of Clinical Investigation‚ shows a type of obesity gene called FTO makes it much more likely for some people to pile on the pounds than others.
The University College London team said people with this certain variation not only had more hunger hormone called ghrelin in their blood but also greater sensitivity to the chemical in their brains.
Researchers hope the findings will help them finding new ways to tackle obesity and reduce the health risks linked to the condition such as heart disease‚ diabetes‚ and cancer.
