Pope Benedict the 16th called on leaders in Muslim countries to protect Christian minorities.
During his annual address to diplomats on Monday‚ the pope said that the leaders must do much more to stop violence against religious minorities‚ denouncing the recent attacks against Christians in Egypt and Iraq.
He also urged Pakistan to repeal its blasphemy law‚ saying that it "serves as a pretext for acts of injustice and violence against religious minorities."
Under the law‚ a woman was sentenced to death last November for insulting Islam and a governor was shot and killed last week for opposing the legislation.
