요약정보
While temperatures in most counties and towns in China shot above 37 degrees Celsius‚ the country's capital hit the big 4-0.
This is one of the hottest summers ever recorded in Beijing and keeping cool has become a priority for people as well as animals.
However‚ Beijing Zoo has been preparing for the expected temperature hike for over half a year.
The zoo spared no dollars when it came to their animals' well-being.
Around 147 thousand US dollars were spent solely on providing ways for its attractions to keep cool.
Air-conditioning is provided for the more valuable species such as pandas‚ while others are provided with shades or oversized ice cubes.
Animals that cannot withstand the heat well‚ such as bears and gibbons‚ were given extra helpings of ice cubes that are specially made by the zoo.
Due to the unbearable heat‚ many of the zoo's residents are staying indoors and away from visitors' view.
Some visitors were disappointed‚ while others understood the animals' decisions.
The life of film extras in Morocco can be tough.
They rub shoulders with the biggest film stars in the country and the world‚ but barely earn a living.
Many film studios are clustered in Quarzazat‚ earning it the nickname‚ "The Hollywood of Morocco."
To highlight the dilemma of the working-class members of the Moroccan film industry‚ a documentary that aims to shed light on the situation of the low-income actors in the country has been produced.
Titled "The Silence's Echo‚" the film is directed by Rabii Al-Jawhari and is sponsored by the Moroccan branch of Amnesty International.
The 52-minute movie documents the life of a young boy who constantly searches for jobs as a film extra in order to pay his rent‚ a woman who played many successful roles in movies but was always paid practically nothing and an old man who has been trying to finish a house he started building in 1962 using the money he earns as an extra.
Jawhari and Amnesty International are hoping that their project will draw attention to poverty and the basic rights of those living in dire conditions.
The way books are stored in libraries may change in the near future‚ thanks to developments in the field of nanotechnology.
There are around 16 million books stacked and stored in the New York Public Library.
Storing the entire contents of this library in digital format would definitely be welcome news for the librarians.
Professor Jay Narayan of North Carolina State University developed a computer chip that can be made as small as one square centimeter.
Each chip can store three terabytes of data‚ which means millions of pages of books can be stored with ease.
The chip is embedded with nanodots that can be as small as six nanometers.
One would be amazed to learn that a strand of human hair is around 50 thousand nanometers thick.
According to Professor Narayan‚ it's only a matter of time before all the data in the world's largest libraries are stored in his chips.
