With the 2006 World Cup just three months away‚ German police are on alert for hooligans who might disrupt the games.
Especially with this World Cup being held in Europe‚ notorious for its football hooligans‚ German officials are taking steps to make sure violence doesn't mar the global soccer gala.
With the World Cup coming‚ Germany is preparing for the worst when it comes to hooligans.
Police in Hamburg held exercises for situations that could arise‚ at ten venues across the city.
With cadets playing the roles of fans or hooligans‚ police are practicing crowd control as well as dealing with clashes at stadiums and public areas.
In this one‚ hypothetical fans get out of hand while entering a stadium and the police prevent them from stampeding the entrance.
"I think this rehearsal - as close or as far as it is from reality - is good enough to detect points or facts we will still have to work on."
Other exercises include‚ escorting teams from their hotels and onto buses while preventing fans from gaining access to the players.
This hypothetical crowd is moving toward a bus with soccer players‚ and the police force steps in to break it up.
Germany is expecting more than 1.5 million visitors this summer when it hosts the World Cup.
