You probably haven't heard of the "FIFI Wild Cup."
Now it's not to be confused with the FIFA World Cup.
This FIFI Wild Cup is for those countries that didn't make the cut for the soccer gala in Germany.
Son Hee-kyung tells us more.
The summer of 2006 may well be a memorable one for the 32 countries participating in the World Cup soccer tournament.
But for those whose countrymen aren't competing in this prestigious tourney‚ the season was destined to be a downer.
That's what prompted the fledgling Federation of International Football Independents‚ otherwise known as FIFI‚ to hold a soccer tournament for regions that aren't recognized as nations by the United Nations or FIFA‚ the world's soccer governing body.
ELTON‚ ORGANIZER OF FIFI WILD CUP: "For me it's great fun here. Everyone should have fun in this place. But the players and especially the coaches are very nervous and they want to show their best."
This alternative World Cup was the brainchild of some Germans from "St. Paulie‚" a part of Hamburg that is not recognized by the government.
The final match of the FIFI Wild Cup was held over the weekend in Hamburg‚ Germany.
Some players floated down onto the pitch by parachute.
Participating teams included Northern Cyprus‚ Greenland and Zanzibar‚ a small tropical island off the coast of Africa.
These soccer squads might not be as competitive as their counterparts from Brazil‚ Italy‚ and England‚ but they have at least one thing in common: a love for soccer.
On the scene in Berlin‚ spectators were experiencing a world of cultures from Brazilian carnival to Hungarian traditional dance to African percussion music.
With the World Cup just a few days away‚ it looks like soccer fans are getting fired up over their sport regardless of where they're from.
