To promote the recognition of parents beyond Parent's Day‚ the government continued celebrations on Monday with a series of special events. Mothers were the guests of honor at a ceremony hosted by the culture ministry at the Seoul National Museum of Contemporary Art. Seven Korean artists‚ including a pianist‚ a painter and a jazz singer‚ shared stories of the sacrifices made by their mothers‚ which led to their success. The mothers were presented with a plaque of appreciation and a golden pin as a symbol of gratitude for raising and supporting the artists who've contributed to society. A similar heart-warming event was held at the Sejong Cultural Center for some 200 seniors who live alone. The Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Korea Association of Senior Welfare Centers teamed up for the event aimed at remembering all of the nation's elderly citizens. "The number of elderly people who live by themselves is increasing We don't want them to feel left out of Parent's Day festivities so we prepared this event and to help put a smile on their faces." Pinned with red carnations‚ the seniors enjoyed an afternoon of singing‚ dancing and relaxing massage therapy. "I am deeply touched to be here. I have never received anything like this before."
