요약정보
Over 70 percent of the earth's surface is covered by water.
And over 70 percent of human body is composed of water.
There's no food without water and there's no life without water.
[Reporter : Kim Na-ri‚
narikim@arirang.co.kr] "Although water is seemingly abundant‚ the real issue is the amount of fresh‚ drinkable water available. Over 97 percent of water on Earth is salt water‚ which leaves only less than 3 percent as fresh water‚ much of which is frozen. But as human populations increase‚ the demand for water threatens to exceed supply in many areas of the globe."
To acknowledge the importance of water the project Water Education for Teacher or WET training workshop was offered this week to over 30 teachers‚ as well as members of different NGOs in Seoul.
They are here to learn interesting ways to teach their students about the importance of water.
[Interview : John Etgen‚ Senior VP
Project WET Foundation] "Here in Korea‚ you guys have amazing education program to begin with‚ so project WET foundation feels like these materials could help support your water education effort. So my hope and dream is that these teachers that are here today will go back to their classrooms and implement these materials to help the awareness of their students for the importance of water."
These teachers became students following the instructor as he shows methods to learn about water.
After taking a day of workshop full of activities the teachers will then be certified to teach others.
The activities are created by scientists and educators which are made to be the most effective‚ easy and interesting ways to grasp the information on water.
They use beads‚ coloring books and pictures to make learning something fun.
[Interview : Jeon Shin-ja‚ Principal
Maewon Elementary School] "Through the workshop‚ I learned the importance of water. I will go back to school and teach them about water and tell those who shower every morning and every night how to save water."
The US-based Project WET was established in 1984 and since then the foundation has dedicated itself to reaching children‚ teachers and community members of the world with water education.
The foundation's members are active in over 40 countries and this is their first time coming to Korea partnered with Korean food company Pulmuone as Korea hopes to take an active role in saving water‚ saving the earth.
