From drinkers to students high school seniors now.
With their grueling scholastic ability tests now over the students are turning to activities they haven't had time for like hanging out with friends.
While the government is pitching in to help students make the most of their down time‚ businesses are seeing an opportunity to ring up sales.
Here's Kang Chery.
After the intense ten-hour exam high school seniors had to bear last week‚ they are almost finished with Korea's notorious exam hell.
That's why Korea's culture ministry is stepping up to offer 100 days of culture for students who have studied so hard.
For the next three months high school seniors across the nation will be rewarded with more than 200 programs ranging from this ceramics class to musicals‚ concerts‚ and sports under the theme of ''Get into Culture.''
Students can learn ceramics‚ metal craft and paintings.
This three-hour long class costs two dollars.
''Our goal is to provide cultural experiences when students have more spare time after the college entrance exams. Through this we hope to make students develop creativity and artistic sensitivity so that they grow up to be cultured members of society.''
''The Korean government is not the only one that has prepared programs for these students. This niche market is also seen as a golden opportunity for businesses in Korea always on the lookout for potential consumers.''
The movie industry is one of them.
Megabox‚ which operates a chain of theaters‚ is offering free tickets to students who show them their test application stubs.
Students participated in the event on Thursday‚ and will have another chance next Thursday.
''We conducted a survey‚ and spending time with friends'topped the list of things high school seniors want to do. In terms of the ways to spend time with friends watching a movie came first.''
And that benefit is embraced by students who Megabox says are close to becoming the movie chain's target consumer segment people in their 20s.
''We rarely get a chance like this. It comes only once in a lifetime. I am very happy that I get to watch a movie for free.''
The theater chain estimates nearly seven thousand students are expected to get free tickets at Megabox locations across the nation on this two-day event.
