Prosecutors are seeking an arrest warrant for Lee Jae-hyun‚ the head of local food and entertainment conglomerate CJ Group‚ who is suspected of hiding company money in slush funds and evading taxes.
The Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office in southern Seoul said Wednesday the charges against Lee include tax fraud‚ dereliction of duty and embezzling up to 500 billion won‚ or over 430-million dollars.
Lee‚ who is Korea's 10th richest man‚ could face up to nine years in prison if found guilty.
On Tuesday‚ Lee admitted to instructing CJ Group executives to create slush funds both at home and abroad‚ but said the funds were not for personal use nor were they used for illegal activity. Reporter : hyunbin@arirang.co.kr
