The U.S. Department of Agriculture is moving swiftly to assure the world that the nation's beef is safe.
The department said Wednesday that it's continuing to investigate the case of mad cow disease discovered in California earlier this week‚ while stressing that it's perfectly safe to eat American beef and drink American milk.

Following the department's announcement‚organizations representing the U.S. livestock industry also put out statements‚ stressing that the isolated case does not pose a risk to human health.

Rosa Brothers Milk Co.‚ Inc.] "Milk is safe‚ it doesn't affect milk at all. And this cow did not enter the food supply‚ so I think we have a very safe system here."
The U.S. has also pledged to fully update its trading partners on related developments‚ while thanking its trading partners for not banning its beef.

U.S. Dept. of Agriculture] "We've been appreciative of the support that Mexico and Canada and Japan and South Korea and other countries have indicated publicly‚ that they have no reason at this point in time to impose a ban."

The department also sent letters to the country's 20 major trading partners to assure them that American beef is safe for consumption.
