요약정보
This is a classroom of fifth grade students at Korea International School‚ an international public school.
Attending their first classes‚ the students look both nervous and cheerful in the unfamiliar environment.
The atmosphere is not so much different from that of ordinary schools except that students are required to speak only English during classes.
About 370 students have been admitted to the school‚ ranging from 1st to 8th grade‚ and approximately 60 faculty members have been employed.
The competition rate for admission was two to one on average.
Students will take a western‚ US style curriculum‚ studying subjects such as the Korean language‚ social science‚ and history.
Their credits will be recognized in both Korea and America.

Those above the fourth grade will live in a dormitory with Korean assistant teachers.
Students have to speak English at school during classes and extracurricular activities as well as all school events.

About 48 billion won of government money has been invested in the establishment of the school. YBM SISA is in charge of school operation.
The surroundings of the school are still a far cry from the planned state of the Jeju Global Education City.
There are excavators and dump trucks still working on the site and the landscaping has not been completed.
The playground and gymnasium are not available at the moment.
These shortfalls exist because KIS is pushed to meet a required number of school days.
Opening ceremonies will be held on October 13th.
KIS has started its first classes amid fallen expectations and concerns.
Whether the Jeju Global Education City project will be successful or not remains to be seen. Mike Balfour‚ KCTV.
