In the latest polls ahead of next month's Seoul mayoral election lawyer-turned-civic activist Park Won-soon continues to be the frontrunner but ruling Grand National Party lawmaker Na Kyung-won is catching up fast.
According to a survey of 500 Seoul residents conducted last Saturday by the Korea Society Opinion Institute Park‚ who is not yet affiliated with any party‚ garnered the most support among the eight candidates with 28-point 4 percent.
Na as the strongest contender from the ruling GNP recorded 25-point 9 percent.
The poll also showed that Park would currently garner 48-point 2 percent of the votes in a straight run off against Na who would receive 46-point 8 percent as the gap between the two continues to tighten.
Na's popularity has picked up dramatically over the past two weeks.
A similar survey conducted on September 7th by pollster Media Research showed that 51 percent of the respondents would pick Park over Na with 32-point 5 percent.
And on 13th the results changed to 46-point 5 percent for Park and 36-point 2 percent for Na.
The mayoral race for the capital's top post burst into life when former mayor Oh Se-hoon resigned in August over a failed referendum on the free school lunch program.
The election date is set for October 26.
