In Korea‚ Buddha's Birthday is celebrated on the eighth day of the fourth month according to the lunar calendar‚ which fell on May 10th this year.
And special services and festivals were held at some 20-thousand temples nationwide to honor the occasion.
"At the Jogye Temple in downtown Seoul‚ multicultural families and migrant workers were joined by Christian‚ Catholic‚ and Muslim leaders to take part in Buddhist rituals."
Politicians and high ranking officials are invited to the ceremony each year‚ but the temple tried to bring people together from different religions and social classes this time around.
In a speech‚ Buddhist leaders expressed how they all wanted peace on the Korean peninsula and for the two Koreas to reunite.
They also talked about their wish for the further development of Korean Buddhism.

Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism] "Through fulfillment‚ culture‚ life‚ sharing and peace‚ I hope Korean Buddhism takes a new step and develops with our people to create a brighter future."
Although heavy showers were expected throughout the day‚ temples around the country were still crowded with people taking part in the special ceremonies.
[Interview : Lee Yong-ju‚ Visitor from Daejeon] "We are visiting from Daejeon and since it is Buddha's Birthday today we decided to come to Jogye Temple to enjoy the festival‚ even though it is raining."
[Interview : Chloe Vasseur‚ Exchange student from France] "We wanted to visit a temple for Buddha's Birthday and it was this temple‚ the most important temple on tourism websites."
Activities such as making lotus lanterns out of paper and drawing religious figures followed the rituals‚ where visitors sat down with their friends and family to enjoy their day out.
At Seoul's Bongeun Temple‚ an exhibition of traditional lanterns was showcased‚ while Myeongrak Temple held a festival welcoming people from various religious backgrounds.
Also‚ Hyonji Temple in the city of Chuncheon‚ Gangwon Province‚ is holding the biggest lantern festival in the world where a whopping 125-thousand lanterns will be lit.
