The annual international cycling competition‚ Tour de Korea 2011‚ ended its ten-day journey on Sunday.
Starting in the southern city of Gumi‚ South Gyeongsang Province‚ both professional and amateur riders cycled through nine different cities in ten days with the finale in Seoul.

So‚ I was able to meet the athletes and the organizers of the Tour de Korea during the opening and closing day of the race.
Well‚ the champion's yellow jersey this year went to Choi Ki Ho from Hong Kong and the professional continental team Team Type 1 won the overall team competition.
But the team spirit of around 200 amateur riders was not to be missed‚ since they had so much passion and a strong determination to complete the race.
Let's take a look.
2‚300 kilometers‚ nine cities in ten days.
Tour de Korea 2011‚ Asia's largest international road cycling competition‚ was held successfully from April 15th to the 24th.
The entire competition is team-based‚ although an individual winner is announced at the end of the race.
And it attracted around 200 professional cyclists‚ while also featuring 200 amateur riders.
[Interview : Peter Tomlinson‚ UCI Intl. Commissaire] "We've got a very good competitive field with our riders from all over the world with 17 continental teams and numerous national teams. So‚ many of these riders have been racing quite a lot in the last few weeks‚ so they're all ready to go‚ so I think we're gonna have a very big race."
On the morning of the first day of the competition‚ athletes did light warm-ups as well as last minute tune-ups on their bikes.
34 year-old Kim Myo-jin runs an online shopping mall and she's only been riding for a year and half.
Myo-jin is part of the first four female participants in this year's race‚ the first time ever in the event's history.

] "Actually‚ instead of setting some type of record or achieving a great result‚ I just want to go out and complete the race safely and strive to do the best of my abilities."
Meanwhile‚ winning team of Tour de Korea 2010 is hoping to match last year's results.

Jelly Belly Cycling] "We're really looking to build up last year. Kind of replicate it. Because winning the race is the goal every time doesn't matter where or what the race is you always wanna win."
But‚ it's not only the riders who have high hopes for this year's race.
[Interview : Hong Seong-ki‚ General Secretary
Korea Sports Promotion Foundation] "Compared to 2010‚ better management and the addition of professional continental teams has certainly improved the overall competition. And the prize money has been increased as well. So‚ we're really expecting a great race this year."
The sound of the starting pistol kicked off the start of the ten-day race.
Cyclists glided through the city of Gumi on their two wheels.
Stage 1 includes a 100-kilometer stretch overlooking the Nakdong River and the Gaya mountains.
The first stage includes scenic spots such as Hapcheon Lake and Mt. Gaya‚ which the riders were able to enjoy under the warm spring sun.
Around three hours later‚ one by one they crossed the finish line to complete the first-leg of the race.
And the winner of the Tour de Korea back in 2006 was the first to complete the stage.
He says things were different today compared to his last visit to the country.
