Authorities raided the offices of Busan Savings Bank and four of its affiliates this morning as part of an ongoing probe into their illegal lending practices.
Investigators with the Supreme Prosecutor's Office seized documents and computers from the five lenders which are accused of violating mutual savings laws through practices such as extending illegal loans to their major shareholders.
The homes of bank executives were also searched for evidence.
The raid comes after financial authorities decided last month to impose a six-month suspension in the banks' operations due to insolvency concerns.
Prosecutors are said to be planning raids on other mutual savings banks that are also banned for similar reasons.
