We begin with the deteriorating nuclear reactor crisis in Japan.
A THIRD explosion in four days has shaken the earthquake-damaged Fukushima nuclear plant in northeast of the country‚ as authorities continue in their struggle to prevent a catastrophic release of radiation.
And news has just come in that there has been another explosion at the plant's Reactor No. 4.
We turn now to reporter Yang Ji-woo for the latest on the events unfolding in Fukushima‚ Ji-woo fill us in.
Yes‚ Japan's nuclear safety agency said an explosion was heard this Tuesday morning at 6:10 am local time and it was reported that the blast took place inside the housing of the plant's No. TWO reactor.
Now‚ Tuesday's blast at the stricken Dai-ichi nuclear plant followed the previous two hydrogen explosions at the facility..with its latest coming only one day agoon Monday.
And in addition a fourth blast has just been reported that the No. FOUR REACTOR which has caused fire to break out at the facility.
Authorities are struggling to prevent a catastrophic release of radiation ever since the first blast ripped through one of the reactors.
What was the cause of the blast and what has been the overall response from Japanese citizens[Reporter : JIWOO] The cause of the third explosion at the Unit TWO reactor and the overall conditions at the nuclear plant are not immediately clear but it has become apparent that workers at the site have been trying to keep sea water pouring into the No. 2 reactor since it suffered its damage after No.3 reactor exploded on Monday.
But the water soon burned off due to a lack of fuelwhich led to the reactor's fuel rods being completely exposed for some time.
Officials stated earlier that there could have been a partial meltdown at the No. 3 and No. 1 nuclear reactors but it is yet to be confirmed since the reactor chambers are too hot to check what actually happened inside.
Now experts saythat flooding the unit core with sea water is a relatively desperate act‚ reflecting the fact that the authorities have decided to ensure that the core is under control and that the future of the reactor is an issue to be dealt with later.
The Japanese government has repeatedly tried to down play the potential risks of a radiation leak let's hear from the Japanese cabinet spokesman‚ Yukio Edano.
[Interview : Yukio Edano‚ Japanese Chief Cabinet Minister] "Even if we were to encounter the worst case scenario‚ it will not be the same situation as Chernobyl."
Yet the Japanese news agency NHK reports that the radation levels at the front gate of the Daiichi plant were four times the maximum level previously detected before the explosion took place.
Kyodo news agency reported that radiation levels at the site "exceeded the legal limit'" right after the explosion‚ leading TEPCO to evacuate its roughly 50 workers from the stricken plant.
Now‚ Ji-woothe damage at Japan's Fukushima Daiichi plant is‚ of course‚ a major cause of concern for the whole world what has been the international community's response[Reporter : JAPAN SEEKS AN INTERNATIONAL AID IN MANAGING ITS NUCLEAR DISASTER] Yes‚ Japanese government has already asked the International Atomic Energy Agency or IAEA as well as the US to aid them in managing the emergency situation with its nuclear power plant. However‚ Japan has not yet turned for help from the EU‚ but the European organization is scheduled to host Energy ministers of the European Union members in Brussels on Tuesday to discuss issues of nuclear security in the wake of the emergency situation with the Fukushima plant.
