However‚ on Broadway‚ he's having some problems even getting started!
The superhero Spider-Man has been turned into a musicalthe most expensive musical on Broadway to be exact‚ titled "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark".
Unfortunately‚ it may see another overhaul causing its opening date to be delayed for three months.
According to the New York Times‚ the new launch date--having been changed six times already-- is slated forJune‚ and will give the cast a break from preview performances.
The troubled show has been in previews since late 2010‚ doing well at the box office‚ with $1.28 million raked in just last week. Perhaps it's the music by U2's Bono and The Edge‚ written for musical.
Though the show's reps haven't confirmed the shutdown‚ if it does go ahead‚ it will be one of the largest setbacks in musical history. The $65 million production has already seen cost over-runs‚ a string of injuries to cast and crew‚ and a series of safety violations from its ambitious flying routines.
Nurture versus nature
Susan Carey‚ a professor of psychology at Harvard said that knowledge of dominanace and the relation between dominance and size may be inherent.
Children between 8 and 16 months were tested by being shown videos of a large and small block battling to cross a table. The time the infants spent watching the video were measured. It turns out that the babies were more entranced by the small block beating the large blocksuggesting that this was an unlikely outcome that surprised them.
Professor Carey says the study could help change the structure or procedures of developmental learningespecially in that of social interaction.
The government is banning shops in England from openly displaying tobacco products as a part of their measures to cut down on smoking. The Department of Health announced the new measures on national No Smoking Day‚ giving shops a phase-in period to adjust.
Tobacco products will be required to be kept out of sight in large stores and supermarkets by 2012 and in small shops by 2015.
The government seeks to reduce adult smokers from the current figure a little over 20% to 18.5% by 2015. Strategies to do so include tobacco price hikes and discouraging younger generations to even start smoking. Lawmakers are even considering cigarette manufacturers be forced to churn out cigarettes in plain packaging. If this plan unfolds‚ Britain will be the first European country to introduce plain packaging.
Not everyone is a fan of these new measures. Critics include the Association of Convenience Stores and Tobacco companiesthe latter even challenging the ban through court with a judicial review in April.
