UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has called on his senior managers to help reduce the United Nations' next spending plan by 3-percent.
According to the UN spokesman Martin Nesirky on Wednesday‚ the UN chief asked his top executives to find ways to "do more with less" as they examined the current 5.5-billion US dollar two-year budget for possible cuts while preparing spending plans for 2012 and 2013.
The international organization receives membership dues from its member countries‚ but the recent global economic downturn means the global body has to start working within greater financial constraints.
The final budget has to be approved by the 192-member UN General Assembly.
