This horticultural farmer in Jeolla Province has taken a different approach to grow his strawberries this winter season by growing the fruit hydroponically rather than on soiland his method is drawing attention from other farmers in the region.
Grown without soil in a nutrient solution‚ the farmer saysthat hydroponic strawberries are the taste of the future and the technique has enabled him to yield more strawberries than usual.

Farmers are able to produce strawberries indoors under artificial light or outdoors in sunlight through hydroponic cultivation offering growers many advantages.
One of the major benefits of growing strawberries hydroponically‚ aside from the magnificent taste‚ is that they can be grown at an elevated height.
According to farmers this approach is greatly beneficial to them as the strawberries can be picked much more easily and quickly.
[Interview : Choi Nak-gun‚ Strawberry grower] "It only requires five people to do the same job as ten people would have done before‚ so it reduces the cost of labor and operational cost."
The new cultivation process does not require the use of pesticides or other harmful agrochemicals.
The method is expected to contribute greatly to the region's agricultural industry as well as open a new gateway to scientific horticulture that can gaurantee successful harvests regardless of the weather.
