Finance minister Yoon Jeung-hyun has admitted that it is unclear whether the Korean economy will continue to recover as growing inflationary pressure is adding to uncertainties facing the nation.
At a forum held in downtown Seoul on Wednesday Yoon saidthat it was ironic that the economic recovery was spurring increased domestic demand‚ which is in turn‚ causing prices to go up and threatening a continued recovery.
Additionally‚ he called on firms to keep their prices stable‚ saying that passing price hikes onto consumers will only hinder Seoul's efforts to fight inflation and cause great suffering to Korea's low-and-mid income citizens.
Minister Yoon also warned against rigid price fluctuations‚ explaining that once prices have risen it is very difficult for them to go down again. even if economic conditions pick up.
