UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has stated that in too many countries around the worldwomen are still being treated as second-class citizens.
Marking the 100th International Women's Day on Tuesday Ban delivered a message at a conference hosted by the UN saying that there are still far too many girls who are still denied an education and suffer from deliberate and systematic sexual violence in many conflict zones.
He said this year's International Women's Day will focus on equal access to education and training for women so they can take advantage of income-earning opportunities‚ while also protecting themselves from exploitation and vulnerability.
