A London-based think tank claims that the current tense situation on the Korean Peninsula is the most dangerous time since the Korean War six decades ago.
The International Institute for Strategic Studies said Tuesday that it blames Pyeongyang for the escalation of tensions following its attacks last year on the warship Cheonan and Yeonpyeong Island.
In its annual report titled '2011 Military Balance'‚ the IISS said that the provocations have led South Korea to strengthen its military capabilities and interoperability.
The institute also mentioned the North's nuclear ambitions saying that the regime sparked regional security fears last year when it disclosed its uranium enrichment plant to a group of US scientists.
The revelation has raised concerns that the North could produce highly-enriched weapons-grade uranium on top of the plutonium it already possesses.
The IISS said that North Korea has enough plutonium to produce four to eight warheads.
