Amid mounting speculation that the Bank of Korea will raise its key interest rate this month‚ commercial banks are already raising their interest rates.
Industry experts expect the BOK to continue to raise the key interest rate as it gradually started doing in November in order to ease inflation.
Meanwhile‚ the total amount of unpaid taxes in the nation amounted to 22-trillion won‚ or just under 20-billion US dollars‚ by the end of last year.
This is roughly 1.3 billion dollars more than the year before.
Officials say this is due to some small and med-sized companies' inability to pay taxes over the past three years.
