The Obama administration says it is ready for final talks with Congress to enact the Korea‚ US free trade agreement.
Addressing the Capitol Hill on Monday‚ US Trade Representative Ron Kirk said that his office has finished preparing the Korea free trade agreement for submission to Congress.
In a letter to the Ways and Means Chairman Dave Camp‚ Kirk wrote that the USTR is ready to begin “technical discussions” on implementing the bill that the Congress needs to pass in order for the agreement to take effect.
Seoul and Washington exchanged a supplemental agreement reached in December and the revised deal calls for a delayed phaseout of auto tariffs‚ among other things‚ in return for Washington's concessions on pork and medicine.
