North Korea has renewed fresh threats warning that it will attack if provoked by the ongoing South Korea and the US annual joint military exercises dubbed the Key Resolve and Foal Eagle.
As the spring training drills headed into its second day on Tuesday Pyeongyang's foreign ministry released a statement via its state news agency that military action and a nuclear disaster would be inevitable as the reclusive state defends itself against the ROK‚ US joint military drills‚ which it believes is a preparation for a nuclear attack against North Korea.
Pyeongyang‚ however‚ also said that it is ready for dialogue as well.
The warning follows North Korea’s threat on Sunday to turn Seoul into a “sea of flames” and to fire on a tourist site at Imjingak.
Meanwhile‚ Seoul's defense minister Kim Kwan-jin has ordered his troops on the frontier to return fire if attacked.
The joint training between South Korean and US forces began on Monday and will last until April 30th.
More than 200-thousand South Korean soldiers and 13-thousand US troops are taking part in the war games.
