The Korean National Police Agency said Tuesday that 40 cases of industrial spying were reported in the country in 2010.
According to the agency's foreign affairs bureau‚ 11 people involved in six of the 40 cases were sentenced to prison on charges of industrial espionage‚ the leaking of trade secrets and breach of trust.
The total damage claimed by the victimized businesses was estimated at 9.2 trillion won‚ or about 8-billion US dollars.
Many of the cases were associated with information technology and among the nine cases which were international in scope seven pertained to China‚ while two concerned India.
