This year marks the 19th Daegwallyeong Snow Festival‚ and this year the festive atmosphere is also full of hopes for Pyeongchang to become the host of the 2018 Olympic Winter Games. Along with a great winter scenery‚ the Daegwallyeong Snow Festival provides visitors with many things to see and do.

Daegwallyeong Snow Festival] "Daegwallyeong is the heartland of snow and ice in Korea. With such a landscape‚ this is the 19th Daegwallyeong Snow Festival to date. This year in particular we have opened the festival considering
the IOC inspection of the facilities to decide on the host of the 2018 Winter Olympics‚ so the festival is filled with hopes that Pyeongchang becomes the host city."

As this is a seasonal festival‚ many visitors have been looking forward to it all year long. Visitors are well aware that this festival comes only once per year‚ so they are busy enjoying a variety of leisure sports as much as possible.

This is the place for leisure sports! By far the most popular one is sledging.

Children are busy zooming down the snowy slope on their sleds. Even though they fall off or run into mounds of snow‚ there's still plenty of fun to be had.
For some‚ sledding is just the beginning. If there is a need for speed‚ it's time to try out a round of snow rafting!
The thrill of racing like the wind and creating snow clouds in the aftermath is the very essence of snow rafting! And visitors are waiting to blast the cold away on these snowy slopes! It only takes three seconds to realize that being on a mountain after a snowstorm is more thrilling than being at a ravine after a rainstorm.

This year's snow festival has different zones set up for special experiences. This is the igloo zone‚ allowing visitors to spend a night at the igloo.
[Interview : Yu Gyeong-hwa‚ Director] "Association of Lodgings of Pyeongchang County Many people are fascinated by igloos when they see them. When most people hear that it's made out of ice‚ they wonder whether it's cold or not inside. However‚ there is heating inside and it is a unique experience. Thanks to the snow earlier‚ the igloos look even more authentic."
The igloo is the best place to get warm and to dry wet clothes! The children can't stop being amazed by the igloo.
