Unlike regular sleds where people sled down a straight slope‚ bobsledding involves plenty of curved slopes and corners‚ allowing people to zoom down at faster speed.
Speed isn't the only charm bobsledding has to offer. Just by changing the way the sled is ridden opens up another way of having fun. Changing the center of weight lets riders spin around‚ providing a thrill comparable to that felt on a roller coaster.

Snow Town Experience Center ] "Because Gangwon Province is characterized by cold‚ snowy and long winters‚ during which there is no farming‚ we have created opportunities for people to experience winter activities like bobsled‚ Korean traditional ski and snow rafting‚ among others."
Despite the freezing weather‚ everyone enjoys cheerfully the bobsled‚ for which Gangwon Province is sought after by many visitors in every winter.

The preferred winter activity for kids here is the bobsled. But what did the adults enjoy when they themselves were children[Interview : Choi Jong-geun‚ Resident ] "The equipment I'm wearing right now is what people a long time ago used when they went hunting for wild boars. This is a spear‚ and on my back is a "jurumak" which can hold
food or other necessities. I'm wearing a pair of "seolpi" to go up the hill‚ and on my way down‚ I'll wear the pair of "seolmae.""
Gangwon Province is a place that enjoys the most snow in Korea‚ so there had to be measures to adapt to it. These measures were the seolpi and seolmae ‚ or the traditional snow overshoes and skis respectively‚ and were used in the past by the people of Gangwon Province as tools for mobilization and hunting.
The seolpi and seolmae are used to walk in any snow-covered area‚ and residents here still use them to walk uphill and ski downhill.
[Interview : Kim Hye-min‚ Visitor] "I've tried regular skis‚ but I think traditional skis will be more interesting because I've never tried them."
[Interview : Park Jae-dong‚ Resident ] "I was good at traditional skis when I was younger‚ but I don't know whether I'm still good or not."
Despite their age‚ residents in this area have been enjoying traditional skiing since their youth. They expertly ski down the slope using a stick for balance. A pair of seolmae can be used on any snowy slope‚ and have been used by residents of Gangwon Province to not only have fun‚ but also to move from one place to another.
A pair of seolmae is indispensable in this area of Gangwon Province‚ and the traditional method of making seolmae is still well preserved here.These traditional skis are made with wood from maple or cherry trees‚ and each is 1 meter long with the front tip always bent.
