He then instructed small and mid-sized firms to not only have a similar mindset as larger enterprises but to also pursue transparent management and accurate fiscal accounting to bolster their competitive edge.
Presiding over the 23rd Presidential Council on National Competitiveness meeting on Tuesday President Lee said that Korean corporations and the government must reform in various sectors to create a country that is congenial for other nations to do business and invest in.
"한국 기업들이 더 긴장하고 정부도 그런 관점에서 긴장하고‚ 여러면에서 기업하기 좋은 나라‚ 투자하기 좋은 나라 관점에서 좀 혁신적으로 해야한다."
[Interview : President Lee Myung-bak] "Domestic corporations and the government should be vigilant‚ so as to innovatively create a country that is business-friendly and attracts investment."
Lee said in the face of a changing global economic landscape citing the commencement of the Korea-EU FTA in July of next year collaborative efforts by the central and local governments as well as the National Assembly are needed to boost the nation's competitiveness.
He stated that various regulations to ensure a new global financial order and fair trade are expected to be set after the G20 Seoul Summit and that the government will try to ease those restrictions to help Korean entities.
The Korean leader added that if such regulations are tied down by an existing ordinance then the government shouldn't shift the responsibility to the National Assembly to revise the related laws but instead alter the ordinance itself… if possible.
