A lawmaker's remarks on the taxation of aesthetic plastic surgery has drawn special attention at the annual government offices inspection on this Thursday.
Kim Sung-gon‚ a member of the main opposition Democratic Party‚ accused the National Tax Services of sexual discrimination for imposing taxes on plastic surgeries including breast enlargement and cosmetic eyelid surgery.
Kim added that such taxation can be a burden to people with low-income.
Tax Commissioner Lee Hyun-dong responded that since the National Tax Services is an executive branch‚ it is inappropriate for the institution to decide if a taxation is right or wrong.
