The mud festival here in Boryeong has already become one of the most famous festivals in Korea attracting over two million people each year.
It is somewhat more popular among foreign nationals living in Korea but its reputation is getting to be known internationally drawing tourists directly from all around the world.
Summer is now in full swing here in Korea with the scorching heat forcing temperatures to soar nearly 35 degrees celcius in some parts of the country.
The sweltered people are craving to escape the unbearable heat.
And among many popular holiday destinations across the country Boryeong in South Chungcheong Province certainly is one.
Boryeong is famous for its beautiful beaches but it's most well known for the Mud Festival‚ which is held every year at Daecheon Beach.
The 13th Boryeong Mud Festival has kicked off last Saturday and despite worries of the organizers because of the heavy rain the number of visitors on the first day alone was already close to 5-hundred thousand.

Mud is known to contain elements that helps revitalize the skin and a mud bath treatment is often used in many spas as a way to relieve arthritis.
And Boryeong mud is famous for its healing properties as well‚ which are contained in many cosmetic products and is increasingly drawing more and more people who are coming to try out the effects themselves.

Boryeong Mud Skincare Center] "Boryeong mud contains natural minerals that prevent the skin aging. It is also good for eliminating toxins and excess sebum in pores." 보령머드는 피부노화를 방지하는 천연미네랄등 유효성분이 들어있으며 모공속 노폐물과 과잉피지 제거에 효과가 있습니다.
Boryeong's mud is recognised internationally and it was even exported to China last year.
China's northeastern port city of Dalian hosted an international mud festival last September in which about 20 tons of Boryeong mud was shipped over.
And this year officials from Boryeong's sister cities in China and Japan have also attended Boryeong Mud festival to learn more about it.

The Boryeong Mud Festival is one of the biggest events in Korea and it provides a unique experience to participants.
An event organizer says that it is actually an opportunity to escape from the reality.

Boryeong Mud Festival] "We have programs such as mob scenes where people can take part as well. So it's not about watching performances‚ but also participating in them in order to make an event together. We've prepared our festival just like 'La Tomatina'‚ Spain's annual tomato chucking festival.
