President Lee Myung-bak is thanking all 21 countries that helped his country during the 1950-1953 Korean War this week leading up to the 60th anniversary of the war this Friday.
He is sending out his contributing column to major dailies this week and on Monday Thai newspapers Maticho and the Bangkok Post published his column.
The Korean President emphasized the special relationship between Korea and Thailand saying Thailand was the first Asian nation to provide support for the South and that the noble sacrifices of the Thai soldiers‚ especially the approximately 1‚300 who died in the war‚ helped to build the foundation of freedom and liberty that Koreans enjoy today.
The Korean War left the country in complete ruin. But the Thai soldiers helped us lay the foundation for freedom.")
Expressing gratitude for Thailand's "selfless friendship" and help during the war he vowed not to spare any efforts to promote global peace and prosperity.
Highlighting Korea's feat in achieving swift economic development‚ President Lee promised to help other developing nations by sharing its experience and training programs.
And the Korean leader faced with the difficult task of dealing with the aftermath of the March sinking of the naval warship Cheonan‚ allegedly by North Korea‚ said his goal is to obtain peace and stability in the region rather than create further confrontation and division on the Korean peninsula.
