요약정보
China says it's not defending anyone over the Cheonan incident.
According to the Presidential Office in Seoul‚ China's premier Wen Jiabao also said that his country will condemn any behavior that disturbs peace and stability on the Korean peninsula during a summit with South Korean President Lee Myung-bak in Seoul on Friday afternoon.
The Senior Secretary for Public Relations at the Presidential Office‚ Lee Dong-kwan‚ told reporters after the summit that China's number two leader said Beijing will pay close attention to the international community's response to the incident and decide how to respond and who was at fault after evaluating the matter in an objective and fair manner.
China's backing is key to South Korea's move to punish North Korea for its alleged torpedo attack since China being North Korea's only ally‚ has refrained from criticizing the communist country for sinking the South Korean warship.
Beijing's support for Seoul in presenting the issue to the UN Security Council is crucial since China is one of five permanent members of the global body with the right to veto.
The Presidential Office in Seoul believes Friday's summit was fruitful with Seoul narrowing the gap in North Korean affairs with Beijing who has not been eager to impose sanctions on Pyeongyang.
Meanwhile‚ the two countries also promised to continue discussions on the prospects of a Korea-China free trade agreement and to increase bilateral trade volume to 300 billion US dollars by 2015.

President Lee Myung-bak will use the trilateral summit with the leaders of China and Japan this weekend and the Asia Security Conference in Singapore next weekend to make clear who was at fault and pursue denuclearization on the Korean peninsula.
