요약정보
The dye from a kind of pampas grass growing on Jeju makes khaki-toned cotton.
Silk is dyed with ramie plants from the field‚ which turns its colors into beige.
Cloth weaved with hemp and silk is dyed a light shade of brown with brown algae.
The works colored with such natural dyes such as persimmon‚ honeysuckle‚ onion‚ and ramie represent Jeju's pure hues for all seasons.
By repeating the process of making dyed cloth dry in the breeze and the sun‚ the unique color of Jeju has been formed.
The Traditional Natural Dye Art Research Institute recently held the Tamna Pure Color Exhibition.
[Interview : Mun Hye-sook‚ Chairman
Traditional Natural Dye Art Research Institute] "We think something native to Jeju represents the island and the country‚ which makes it possible to go global. So‚ we created pieces based on essential aspects of the island."

Thirty-five members of the research institute presented naturally dyed cloth‚ miscellaneous items‚ and garments‚ which were made using a variety of materials and dye techniques.
There was a dress exhibit displaying modern traditional Korean clothes and casual ones designed using naturally dyed cloth.
[Interview : Mun Yeong-suk‚ Exhibition visitor] "It's incredibly fantastic and amazing to be able to create colors that go so well with our bodies."
Park Dong-gyu‚ a calligrapher with a pen name of Changbong‚ was invited to the exhibition to show visitors the flowing source of creation by leaving brush-written letters on the dyed cloth.
[Interview : Park Dong-gyu‚ Calligrapher] "This exhibition is about seeking nature in the raw‚ so I wrote "Man-mul-bi-eo-a" in Chinese characters‚ meaning "all things come from oneself"‚ that is‚ myself."
This natural dyeing exhibition implanted the image of Jeju with indigenous culture in the visitors.
Cho Sun-hee‚ KCTV.
