For the first time in the nation‚ a profit-making hospital backed by foreign corporate capital will be established here on Jeju.
Previously‚ only doctors and non-profit corporations were allowed to open and operate medical institutions.
Wooridul Hospital in Korea‚ ISOT‚ and the Tasly Group‚ a large Chinese pharmaceutical company‚ signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the investment for the project.
The tentatively named "Wooridul International Hospital" will have 100 beds and aims to be completely constructed by 2011 at the Wellness Resort in Sanghyo-dong in Seogwipo.
It will include a spinal clinic and cutting-edge medical exams.
It will function as a resort for the prevention and treatment of diseases as well as for recreation.
This is the first case of a large scale joint investment from both domestic and foreign capital totaling 100 million dollars‚ which is worth 120 billion won.
The excellent skills and management competency of the domestic medical teams‚ and the location of the island received a high evaluation for investment.
