With twisted grooves and metallic beats‚ Korea's club scene has long been a haven for a healthy roster of DJs and party-goers of both the domestic and international varieties.
And the type of music that has been driving clubbers wild these days is none other than electronic music a genre that has made its way up from underground clubs in Hongdae where the first electronica dance floors sprung up in the late 1990s.

Moving away from the now-resolutely commercial hip-hop and pop music genres more clubs in the capital now cater to electronica buffs with regular parties mostly advertised through flyers and word of mouth.
Clubs are packed shoulder-to-shoulder on the weekends as clubbers gather to escape their weekly stressors.

On top of the surreal decor a string of local and expat DJs attract clubbers who thirst for good music and are geared up for a exciting night out.

The bewitching power of the music is the repetitive beats‚ through which people who indulge can groove along with the rhythm. It is not only on the club scene that electronic music is being well-received some electronica composers and groups are making it big in the local album market.
One that won a popular music award last year is a group called 'House Rulz' which promoted its music by performing in numerous clubs across Seoul.
Consisting of a DJ-slash-saxophone player and two dancers the three-member group has experimented with creative ideas to attract a wide variety of music lovers.

House Rulz] "Those who attend parties and clubs often feel that the music is familiar‚ but it might come across as foreign to those who don't. So‚ on top of the incorporation of different electronic sounds and genres of music‚ we also introduced attention-grabbing elements‚ like the use of the saxophone‚ to entice listeners. As well‚ to popularize and promote our music‚ we are releasing a greater number of albums and holding more concerts."
Electronica may not be performed on the big stages that pop musicians use‚ but through unique styling‚ innovative musical approaches and mind-blowing visual effects more and more people are opening their senses to performers that have long been at work popularizing electronic music.
