President Lee Myung-bak and Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso had a lot to talk about in the half hour they had together here in London Wednesday morning.
There was of course Thursday's G20 financial summit.
As in his talks with the British Prime Minister the previous day President Lee concurred with the Japanese leader that it is crucial to reach clear agreements in this summit to cooperate on finding a way out of the global recession.
The agreed on the need to set up specific guidelines on economic stimulus packages to coordinate macroeconomic policy and to reject protectionism in addition to cleaning up bad assets plaguing financial institutions.
That said the leaders focused on a veritable mutual concern: North Korea's imminent launch of a rocket that many expect to be a missile test.
Agreeing to work for a joint response by the international community the president and prime minister said a long-range rocket launch by Pyeongyang would violate UN resolution 1718 which bans North Korea from testing such devices.
North Korea was also discussed when President Lee met with Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd.
Meeting for the second time in as many months the two men reaffirmed their stance that such action by North Korea posed a big threat to peace and security in Northeast Asia.
"For the past two days President Lee has spoken with world leaders and the media going over the points he's bringing to the G20 table. Now all eyes are on whether the summit will indeed mark progress towards reshaping capitalism or end up being just another round of grand declarations.
