This coming Friday President Lee Myung-bak kicks off his longest overseas trip to date.
The president will be flying into Washington to join world leaders for the Group of 20 meeting officially called the "Summit on Financial Markets and the World Economy."
Presidential aides say Mr. Lee is preparing to discuss a joint global response to overcome the financial crisis and to call for stronger international monitoring to prevent such crises as well as a multilateral cooperative system that includes emerging economies.
He'll also be spending part of his time in the US capital meeting with members of President-elect Barack Obama's advisory team to hear their views on the incoming administration's expected Korean peninsula policies and ways to strengthen Korea-US relations.
The next leg of his trip will be Brazil where President Lee is scheduled to meet with business leaders in Latin America's largest industrial city‚ Sao Paolo.
For the Korea-Brazil summit President Lee will travel to Brasilia for talks on trade and investment issues as well as cooperation in the resource‚ infrastructure‚ and farm sectors with President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva. On November 20th President Lee heads to Peru for a state visit.
He's scheduled for summit talks with President Alan Garcia the next day with the two leaders expected to go over pending issues with the number one destination when it comes to Korea's resource investments in Latin America.
The Peru visit also includes the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation or APEC summit where the global financial crisis is sure to top the agenda along with pending issues such as trade liberalization and climate change.
President Lee will then make a stopover in Los Angeles to meet with Korean-Americans in the city before returning to Seoul on the 26th.
