The ruling Grand National Party has elected Park Hee-tae‚ a former deputy speaker of the National Assembly as its new chairman to lead the party Thursday.
Out of a pool of six candidates… he received more than four-thousand two hundred votes from a GNP delegation of more than seven-thousand five hundred party members and more than 30 percent support from a public poll.
The delegate votes determine 70 percent of the outcome‚ while the public poll stands for 30 percent.
Among the five other candidates… Chung Mongjoon‚ Hu Taeyul‚ Gong Sungjin and Park Soonja also won memberships in the party's supreme council.

Throughout the ten-day campaign… the newly-elected chairman pledged to unite factions within the party.
