Early Tuesday‚ a presidential office aide tapped out a phone text message to the media saying… "I will do my best toward preparations so that no inconveniences occur during the summit."
The message reached reporters as the official left for Pyeongyang to prepare for the
inter-Korean summit taking place from October 2nd to the 4th in the North
Korean capital.
The official is one of the 35 South Korean delegates visiting the North for
four days of summit preparations.
Led by Vice Unification Minister Lee Kwanse‚ the prep team aims to sort out with the North matters regarding protocol‚ escort‚ communication and news media.
"In order for the inter-Korean summit beginning on October 2nd to proceed smoothly and without complications‚ we will thoroughly pursue preparatory reviews."
The second-ever summit between the two Koreas following the first attended by President Kim Daejung in 2000…. has South Korea sending two advance teams to the North to set things in order.
The second team departs for Pyeongyang on the 27th.
To some extent the two Koreas agreed in advance on the summit itinerary‚
venues and sightseeing visits through an exchange of documents.
These face-to-face visits will cement in place these agreements… including that of President Roh Moo-hyun's use of a land route to travel to Pyeongyang.
And for this exact purpose‚ the delegation traveled in a vehicle that
President Roh regularly uses.
As officials are busy making advance preparations for the summit‚
Unification Minister here in Seoul also said South Korea will look into the
possibility of the delehgation's attending the Arirang performance‚ if
Pyeongyang makes a suggestion.
The yearly showcase of Arirang‚ a mass gymnastics display that mostly pay
homage to North Korean leader Kim Jong-il and his father and former leader
Kim Ilsung is said to have resumed Monday… after more than a month of
suspension due to flood damage.
