요약정보
Foreign ministers of Korea‚ China and Japan have held a trilateral meeting on Korea's southern resort island of Jeju.
Korean Foreign Minister Song Minsoon also held separate bilateral talks with his Chinese and Japanese counterparts on a host of issues.
Our Foreign Ministry correspondent Nam Kiyung files this report from Jeju.
The foreign ministers of Korea‚ China and Japan have converged for a pow-wow session aimed at expanding trilateral cooperation.
Song Minsoon Yang Jiechi and Taro Aso held a three-way meeting in the afternoon on cultural exchange‚ the environment‚ free trade and North Korea's nuclear impasse.
''There is meaning in that the three countries agreed to take tangible measures in nine sectors. Combined‚ the three countries hold approximately 20 percent of the worlds GD‚P which is as you know one-fifth of global trade.''
One result is the agreed introduction of shuttle flights linking Korea's Gimpo International Airport Shanghai's Hongqiao Airport and Tokyo's Haneda Airport.
The three countries will also step up efforts to deal with annual yellow sandstorms originating from China and industrial waste from North Korea.
The storms cause Koreans and Japanese to suffer from respiratory ailments.
On economic issues Seoul says it will look into pursuing a trilateral free trade agreement among the three neighbors after reviewing a feasibility study.
Minister Song also asked for China and Japan's support for Korea's bids to host the 2012 World Expo and the 2014 Winter Olympics.
He also held private talks with Chinese Minister Yang and another with Japanese Minister Aso ahead of the trilateral talks.
Mr. Song brought up the four North Korean asylum seekers who fled to Japan and were taken into custody Saturday.
Mr. Aso says the North Koreans took a boat to Japan's Aomori Prefecture and that authorities there are questioning them.
Both ministers also say a resolution to the matter should be based on humanitarian principles and the defectors' wishes.
They also agreed to open the next round of maritime demarcation negotiations on June 17th in Seoul.
Korea and Japan are negotiating overlapping exclusive economic zones in the East Sea separating them.
The two sides will launch the second meeting of their joint historical study committee near the end of this month in Tokyo.
In Minister Song's meeting with Chinese Minister Yang‚ they agreed to investigate the cause of a collision last month off China between Korean and Chinese freighters.
The Korean vessel sank after the accident‚ with all 16 crew members believed to be dead.
Mr. Yang also says Beijing is working very closely with the parties involved to free up North Korea's stranded money with a Macau-based bank.
''There are legal and technical factors in the Macau money matter. But being fixated on the two matters alone cannot fix the problem. We must overcome the obstacles by being considerate to each others' limits and levels of understanding.''
Minister Song says the trilateral meeting will become a regular happening from now on adding that top diplomats from the three countries will get together whenever the occasion arises. The venue for the next meeting is expected to be Japan.
