The foreign ministers of Korea‚ China and Japan have held trilateral talks on Korea's southern resort island of Jeju.
Korean Foreign Minister Song Minsoon has also held bilateral talks with Yang Jiechi of China and Taro Aso of Japan.
Our Foreign Ministry correspondent Nam Kiyung joins us LIVE on the line from Jeju.
So Kiyung… what did the three diplomats discuss The foreign ministers of Korea‚ China and Japan have converged for a pow-wow session… aimed at expanding trilateral cooperation.
Song Minsoon … Yang Jiechi and Taro Aso held a three-way meeting in the afternoon on cultural exchange‚ the environment‚ free trade and North Korea's nuclear impasse.
One result is the agreed introduction of shuttle flights linking Korea's Gimpo International Airport… Shanghai's Hongqiao Airport and Tokyo's Haneda Airport.
The three countries will also step up efforts to deal with annual yellow sandstorms originating from China and industrial waste from North Korea.
The storms cause Koreans and Japanese to suffer from respiratory ailments.
On economic issues… Seoul says it will look into pursuing a trilateral free trade agreement among the three neighbors… after reviewing a feasibility study.
Minister Song also asked for China and Japan's support… for Korea's bids to host the 2012 World Expo… and the 2014 Winter Olympics.
He also held private talks with Chinese Minister Yang and another with Japanese Minister Aso ahead of the trilateral talks.

I also hear that Minister Song mentioned four North Korean defectors who recently escaped to Japan… when he met Minister Aso.
Yes‚ he did.
Mr. Aso says the North Koreans took a boat to Japan's Aomori Prefecture… and that authorities there are questioning them.
Ministers Song and Aso also say a resolution to the matter should be based on humanitarian principles and the defectors' wishes.
They also agreed to open the next round of maritime demarcation negotiations on June 17th in Seoul.
Korea and Japan are negotiating overlapping exclusive economic zones… in the East Sea separating them.
The two sides will launch the second meeting of their joint historical study committee… near the end of this month in Tokyo.
In Minister Song's meeting with Chinese Minister Yang… they agreed to investigate the cause of a collision last month off China between Korean and Chinese freighters.
The Korean vessel sank after the accident‚ with all 16 crew members believed to be dead.
Mr. Yang also says… Beijing is working very closely with the parties involved to free up North Korea's stranded money with a Macau-based bank.
