Food safety authorities are working on a system to check trans fat use in packaged foods by this December.
The Korea Food and Drug Administration says it will make it mandatory for makers of pastries‚ chocolates and instant noodles to indicate how much trans fat is included in their products.
The KFDA is planning to announce detailed guidelines by this month.
Meanwhile in a survey of fast food restaurants in Seoul‚ authorities found lower levels of trans fats in items such as french fries and fried chicken but are warning that levels are still above recommended amounts and that the government will come up with ways to regulate trans fat use by 2010.
