Families nationwide today gathered in their hometowns to celebrate Lunar New Year's Day - one of Korea's biggest holidays.
Koreans observed the tradition of eating rice cake soup as their first meal on the special day.
They also performed memorial rites either at home or at the graves of ancestors.
The spring-like weather on Sunday allowed many to go on family outings to royal palaces.
An estimated 30 million people hit the road after going to family gatherings leading to heavy congestion on major highways.
