US Ambassador to South Korea Alexander Vershbow says financial penalties over North Korea's money laundering and counterfeiting must be resovled first for Washington-Pyeongyang ties to be normalized.
At a meeting with South Korean lawmakers in Seoul‚ Vershbow also voiced his disappointment over Pyeongyang's reluctance to discuss surrendering its nuclear ambitions PRIOR to talks over US financial sanctions on its Macau-based bank account.
Vershbow pointed out the United States is interested in normalizing the Washington-Pyeongyang relationship as well as in providing energy and economic assistance IF North Korea renounces its nuclear ambitions.
