A senior Al-Qaeda leader‚ who was also on the FBI's most wanted terrorist list
has been killed in a raid in northwestern Pakistan.
According to the Pakistan army‚ Adnan Shukrijumah (SHOOK'-ree joohm-HAH) was shot dead by troops near the Afghan border.
The 39-year-old who grew up in the United States was seen as the head of "global operations‚" and was accused of planning to blow up the New York subway system.
Meanwhile a British-born American and a South African hostage have been killed by Al-Qaeda militants during a failed rescue operation in Yemen.
U.S. officials say American journalist‚ Luke Somers was killed by his captors during that operation and so was a South African teacher‚ Pierre Korkie‚ according to a charity group.
The rescue operation involved an air strike followed by a raid by U.S. and Yemeni forces.
U.S. President Barack Obama has condemned the killing.
Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel said the rescue attempt was justified as their lives were in "imminent danger."
