요약정보
The United States Supreme Court has struck down several portions of an Arizona's immigration law‚ but upheldat least temporarily the most controversial provision that allows police to check the identity of anyone they suspect is an illegal immigrant.
The law‚ which was enacted by Arizona in 2010‚ was challenged by the Obama administration‚ which argued that the federal government has sole power over immigration‚ not individual states.
In Monday's ruling‚ the high court struck down three provisions of the state immigration law.
These provisions required immigrants to carry immigration papers at all times‚ made it a crime for an illegal immigrant to work or seek for work in Arizona‚ and allowed police to arrest illegal immigrants without warrants.
However‚ identity check was ruled constitutional as long as it could be proved that it was being carried out in a non-discriminatory manner.
But if the law is unfairly applied‚ it could be challenged later‚ according to legal experts.
Opponents of the law were not satisfied with the court's decision.

"Hundred of my officers have been trained with five-week courses‚ federal trained. So we are well trained to perform our duties in this matter."
President Barack Obama said he was pleased with the removal of the key provisions‚ but was worried about the racial profiling of Hispanics in Arizona.
His Republican rival Mitt Romney has taken a tough stance against illegal immigration and opposed the federal challenge to the Arizona law.
